The Return Of The Teasmade

The Teasmade: a quirky British invention which allowed the owner to wake in the morning to a freshly brewed cup of tea - to be enjoyed in the comfort of their warm, cosy bed.

At the height of their popularity in the 60s and 70s, over 300,000 were sold every year. No self-respecting Guest House would be seen without one by the bed, and they often appeared on the Generation Game’s conveyor belt (almost as often as the obligatory cuddly toy).

But sadly, their popularity declined over the years, mainly coinciding with the rise of espresso machines. And they never did address the problem of people wanting milk with their tea - owners had to have a cachet of tiny milk cartons to hand.

However, they are making a comeback!

John Lewis has recently unveiled their plans to reintroduce the Teasmade, and are currently looking for an electronics company to manufacture a more modern model. Apparently staff there were taking up to 12 complaints a day about the lack of availability of the Teas made - unbelievable!

So once the more, the nation will be waking to a gentle hum, that turns into a gentle hiss as the water boils and gently brews the teabag… I can’t wait!
